HALIFAX
- The Nova Scotia government is now spending less than five
per cent of its tobacco tax revenues on its anti-smoking programs.
Last week's
budget raised tobacco taxes again, the province now takes in
$63 million more per year than it did two years ago.
But it's
only spending about $1.5 million per year on its anti-tobacco
strategy.
Health Minister
Jamie Muir said he would like to spend more on the fight against
tobacco, but the government is facing tight financial times.
Liberal
health critic Jim Smith said the government is living off addicts,
raking in more money from smokers and gamblers.
