The Health Promotion Clearinghouse (HPC) maintains a database of resource people who can assist community groups and organizations to strengthen their ability to carry out health promotion efforts in various areas. Examples include:
• Volunteer development efforts (i.e. recruitment, screening and/or training of volunteers)
• Health promotion practices (i.e. community assessments, surveys, planning, implementation and evaluation)
• Organizational development endeavors (i.e. incorporation, strategic planning)
• Fundraising efforts (i.e., proposal/grant writing)
• Public policy projects (i.e. healthy eating in schools)
• Partnership endeavors (i.e. active living/physical activity initiatives/injury prevention)
Most of the resource persons in HPC's database are either speakers or consultants.
Speakers
Speakers provide valuable information about specific health promotion topics (i.e., sexual health, child health, etc.).
The Health Promotion Clearinghouse can connect you with available volunteer speakers for your meetings and all guest-speaking opportunities and invites and welcomes interested volunteer speakers to contact the Executive Director.
Consultants
Consultants assist community groups and organizations to improve their effectiveness and provide expertise and assistance for a specific activity or intervention. Consultants typically are self-employed people who work on contract for a fee. Consultants possess specific skills and knowledge, and bring objectivity to the task, allowing all members of a community group or organization to participate fully.
Consultants can bring the following skills to a process:
• contracting skills
• problem solving skills
• enhanced communication
• group development
• adult education techniques
• evaluation
• facilitation skills
• fundrasing strategies
The Health Promotion Clearinghouse can connect you with available consulting expertise. The HPC also invites interested consultants to contact the Executive Director.
