Canadian Best Practices Portal for Health Promotion and Chronic Disease Prevention
The purpose is to provide decision makers with better access to published and unpublished information about proven and emerging "best" practices models, theories, methods, research evidence and practical experience. It also consolidates multiple sources of interventions, practices and resources for health promotion and chronic disease prevention that are recommended by experts across Canada and internationally.

This new (2009) database presents some of the violence prevention initiatives in Ontario. Its purpose is not only to provide information, but also to promote the connectedness, collaboration, and exchange ideas and best practices among practitioners.

The main feature of this web site is an online registry of systematic reviews on the effectiveness of public health and health promotion interventions. The registry is one component of a comprehensive knowledge translation site that is intended to support users in accessing and interpreting research evidence. The strategy is also aimed at connecting users across Canada (and internationally), who work in similar areas, or have similar interests.

The new integrated Health Canada website includes a searchable database of many thousands of documents included on the Health Canada and Public Health Agency of Canada's websites.
Healthy Eating and Active Living (HEAL) Database
This updated (2005) database on the Atlantic Health Promotion Research Centre's (AHPRC's) website is an excellent resource on healthy eating and active living policies and initiatives.
Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia's Health Directory
This new database provides a wealth of healthy living resources related to physical activity, healthy eating, tobacco intervention, as well as heart disease and stroke prevention. Recreational facilities and family resource centres are also listed. Resources are searchable provincially, as well as by each of Nova Scotia District Health Authorities.

Indicators of Well-Being in Canada
This new service from Human Resources and Social Development Canada gathers data from different sources and presents a comprehensive, up-to-date picture of the well-being of Canadians and Canadian society. It also shows how this picture may be changing over time. Areas of well-being covered include: work, housing, family life, social participation, leisure, health, security, environment, financial security and learning.
National Eating Disorder Information Centre
The National Eating Disorder Information Centre (NEDIC) is renowned
throughout Canada for its work in information and resources for eating
disorders and food and weight preoccupation. Their directory of service
providers is the most extensive in the country and annually they serve over
3,000 individuals looking for help.
NSHN Health and Wellness Directory
This on-line database lists local organizations that contribute to health and wellness. It is made available by the Nova Scotia Health Network (NSHN) which provides Community Health Boards with a cooperative approach to meeting their community inventory requirements as outlined in the Health Authorities Act. Training is available for contributors.

Tools to Healp Organizations Create, Share, and Use Research (CHSRF)
Launched by the Canadian Health Services Research Foundation in 2007, this free online database of resources is designed for health services organizations that wish to use research better. The database collects resources identified and developed by the foundation and others and provides a one-stop shop for tools that can help health system managers, policy makers, and their organizations acquire, appraise, adapt, and apply relevant research in their work.
