Call for Proposals for NS Voluntary Sector Study

The Nova Scotia Federation of Community Organizations, in partnership with Phoenix Youth, is calling for proposals on the “State of Health of the Non-Profit/ Voluntary Sector in Nova Scotia”, for qualitative and quantitative research specifically on: 

●          Size and scope of the sector in Nova Scotia in relation to economic contribution; 
●          Educational and training experience, employment history and compensation (salary and benefits) for staff at all levels including, but not limited to: frontline workers, middle managers, senior managers and executive directors; 
●          Rates of staff turnover as well as push and pull factors associated with staff turnover/mobility;  
●          Identification of short-term and longer-term knowledge, skills and expertise needs for the sector;
 ●          Identification of specific challenges in attracting and retaining ‘talent’ in Nova Scotia non-profit/ voluntary sector organizations; 
●          Exploration of current (and possible future) staff retention strategies with a view to future needs.

The all inclusive budget is approximately $70,000 and the project is funded by HRSDC.   The deadline for proposals is June 4/09, report to be completed by Dec/10.

Key results will include: 
●          New, current data on the non-profit/voluntary sector in Nova Scotia that is sufficiently broad to meet the needs of key stakeholders. 
●          Increased understanding among non-profit and voluntary organizations about the sector, current pressure points and improved strategies to respond to labour market needs.  
●          Increased knowledge by government, the private sector and the broader public of the value of the non-profit/voluntary sector as well as best practices to maintain its health long term.
