At the Crossroads of Research and Action on Health Equity

Date(s): Feb 23, 2012
Time: 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM

In April 2010, New Brunswick passed into law the Economic and Social Inclusion Act, adopting “Overcoming Poverty Together: The New Brunswick Economic and Social Inclusion Plan”, developed through a consultative process that involved over 2500 citizens.
The Economic and Social Inclusion Corporation (ESIC) was established to lead implementation of the plan. Designed to empower communities to set and implement their own plans, there are now 12 Community Inclusion Networks (CINs) throughout New Brunswick.

This approach requires a clear understanding of community issues and a culture shift among local organizations, which have not traditionally cooperated on joint goals.

The discussions will consider how knowledge generated from public dialogue was used to drive the development of the strategy. Ongoing plans to integrate research and evidence will also be discussed.
