The Health Promotion Clearinghouse (HPC) is a valued resource system supporting Nova Scotia’s health promoters to foster healthy people and healthy communities.

HPC is a non-profit provincial resource system grounded in the principles of health promotion and population health. Serving more than 50,000 different individuals annually, its mandate is to enhance capacity for health promotion and disease prevention in Nova Scotia by providing tools, opportunities for networking, personalized support, and timely access to resources and expertise.

Although formally launched as a provincial organization in 2001, the Health Promotion Clearinghouse (HPC) emerged a few years earlier from the work of the Knowledge and Skills Working Group of the Western Region Heart Health Partnership (Heart Health Nova Scotia). The HPC was established in 1999 in response to the need for a knowledge and skills information exchange system or “clearinghouse” in Nova Scotia’s Western Region. HPC operated successfully as an unincorporated provincial entity from 2001-2008. Organizational growth, particularly in 2006 and 2007, spurred the need for a more formal structure, and resulted in HPC becoming officially incorporated under Nova Scotia’s Societies Act in November 2008.
